Why did we create this?
In the past, there were no real reporting standards, which sometimes led to difficult-to-read reports with many 3D, pie, and gauge charts, as well as unclear color usage. Some time ago, IBCS (R) was introduced and set standards, especially for finance and controlling. We can discuss every individual design point, but that is not what matters most in the end. What matters is following the general concepts and rules: create a standard that fits your organization's needs, follows best practice, and is used consistently.
I created the first version of 'The Financial Visuals Reference – Management Reporting in Power BI'. In this initial draft, I focus on KPI cards that can show the status of a measure by comparing key indicators with a target and/or the previous year. We then go through methods for showing absolute values such as revenue or costs, percentage values such as margins and variances, human resources KPIs such as FTEs (Full-Time Equivalents) and headcount, contributions such as a profit and loss statement, comparisons for customer or revenue gains and losses, revenue versus costs, and finally the concept of small multiples in management reporting.

Inspired by 'THE VISUALS REFERENCE — FOR MICROSOFT POWER BI' from SQL BI, by the 'Financial Times Visual Vocabulary: Power BI Edition' from Jason Thomas, and of course by IBCS ® (International Business Communication Standards), Stephen Few, and Edward Tufte:
