Ultimate Stacked

Ultimate Stacked

Stacked column charts are used to show how data develops over time. Stacked bar charts are used to show the structure of categories at a specific point in time or over a defined period. [Source]. The chart supports advanced legend and grouping features. It can display columns, bars, lines, small multiples, and both standard and 100% versions of these chart types, with horizontal or vertical orientation. Depending on the populated input fields and selected settings, the chart provides different functionality. Download the visual and demo file from AppSource.

Power BI stacked chart reporting use cases

Ultimate Stacked is useful when a Power BI report has to show both the total value and the mix behind that total. Typical examples include revenue by product group, cost structure by department, margin mix by customer segment, and monthly development of categories over time. The Microsoft marketplace description highlights that the visual can show bars, columns, lines and small multiples, which makes it suitable for dashboards where several related categories need to be compared on one page.

For finance and controlling teams, stacked and 100% stacked charts help explain how a result is built up. Report authors can use them to compare absolute values, percentage shares, and category structures across months, scenarios, regions, or business units. This is especially helpful when a standard chart does not give enough control over grouping, orientation, labels, and report-ready formatting.

When to choose Ultimate Stacked

  • Use stacked columns to show how values develop over time.
  • Use stacked bars to compare category structure at one point in time.
  • Use 100% stacked views when the share of each category matters more than the absolute value.
  • Use small multiples to compare the same chart logic across regions, products, customers, or scenarios.
